Rent Collection Service To Assist With Housing Benefit Changes

How To Beat Housing Benefit Payment Changes

Changes to the way in which Housing Benefits are paid to tenants has huge implications for residential landlords counting on timely payment of rental income in order to balance cash flow requirements across their portfolio. Late rent payments occurring across a property portfolio can have a severe impact on the ability of landlords to manage mortgage payments and other commitments. This issue has now become particularly important in this current economic climate.

Rent Payment Cards To Assist Private Landlords

To assist landlords with this problem the Rent Management Service now includes the distribution of rent payment cards to the tenants of all our landlord clients. Tenant Rent Payment Cards allow individuals that receive Housing Benefit directly to pay their rent using cash at any Post Office, PayPoint Outlet or Woolworths store by simply handing their rent payment card over the counter along with their cash rent payment. The card is then swiped electronically and funds are forwarded to the Rent Management Service electronically for onward disbursement to our landlord clients bank accounts via BACS.

The real benefit of allowing tenants to pay their rent using one of our cards is that many Housing Benefit claimants are used to dealing with cash transactions and already use similar swipe cards to pay utility bills at Post Office branches and PayPoint outlets across the country. As such many people in receipt of housing benefit prefer to manage their money in this way as the process is simple and straight forward.

Given that many lower income tenants do not have a standard banking facility at all or may simply have a post office account into which their Housing Benefit is paid directly, the rent payment cards offer an easy way for people to withdraw cash from their Post Office account and then pay their rent their and then at the same time.
