The Manchester Landlords Accreditation Scheme has been designed to enable good local private landlords to be able to play an increasingly vital role in local Manchester communities. Manchester City Council fully supports local residential landlords who provide good quality accommodation and ethical property management standards. The free Manchester Landlord Accreditation Scheme (MLAS) is a publicly recognized quality-mark that shows a landlord has reached high standards of service delivery.

Accreditation Scheme For Private Landlords In Manchester
The Manchester Landlord Accreditation Scheme is a free service to local residential landlords and brings with it a wide range of positive benefits such as:
  • A comprehensive landlords information pack and guide
  • Free tenants information guides
  • Free property inspections and landlord advice
  • Free referencing service of potential new tenants if you also join the Manchester Landlord Information Service resource
  • Easy access to many council services including mediation services and neighbour nuisance advice
  • A distinct market advantage - tenants are more willing to choose you ahead of non accredited local landlords
  • Significant discounts on services such as landlords insurance, security, fire safety, and electrical testing services.
Obtaining Manchester Landlord Accreditation Scheme Status

You can  become accredited provided:

  1. Your gas and electrical appliances, supply and installations are regularly checked
  2. You agree an inventory listing the condition and contents of the property with tenants before they move in  
  3. Furniture meets the fire safety regulations
  4. There's at least one battery-operated smoke detector on each floor - or if it's a shared house, there are adequate fire precautions throughout
  5. You are committed to improving management standards and property conditions
  6. Your property is in good condition and repairs are done in a reasonable time
  7. You treat tenants and potential tenants fairly, and don't discriminate against anyone because of things like their race, gender, disability or sexuality
  8. You have a written tenancy agreement showing how much rent to pay
  9. Have met your legal responsibilities for protecting tenants rent deposits
  10. Your name, address and telephone number are displayed in the property
  11. You have adequate buildings insurance
  12. You explain to your tenants their responsibilities in the home and the community
  13. You take reasonable action to prevent or reduce antisocial behaviour - by asking for references before tenants move in for example  
  14. You work with us to solve any complaints
