The responsibilities of being a private residetial landlord can be rather daunting as the occupation requires many skill sets and a thourough understanding of responsibilities. These vary from legal duties attached to the landlord to what you things a landlord needs to be aware of in relation to property repairs and property maintainance.
The Landlords Accreditation Scheme in London (LLAS) aims to provide provate landlords with the appropriate information and skills to run a well maintained and profitable property portfolio locally. The London Landlords Accreditation Scheme has brought together local landlord organisations, London local authorities and university accommodation units in order to develop a landlords management programme that provides local London landlords with the tools necessary to run a successful property business. The scheme is open to private landlords regardless of their experience to date as a residential landlord in the London area. Private landlords that have obtained accreditation under the london Landlords Accreditation Scheme will have the acknowledgement by many stakeholder organisations and individuals that they have undertaken and committed to a 'best practice' programme which can positively contribute to the success of a landlords property investment business.
The London Landlords Accreditation Scheme Focus
The accreditation scheme fully acknowledges the importance of private residential landlords in london having a wide spetrum of understanding regarding the many and varied issues concerning the letting of residential property in the wider London area.
As such, a focus on the educational development of private landlords that choose to participate in the scheme serves to be the central aim of the delivery of the scheme accordingly. This helps to ensure that landlords are fully aware of their duties and responsibilities not just from a legal perspective, but also the more general responsibility requirement that private landlords have in their local communities.
Issues such as current legislation, basic structural property upkeep requirements, tenancy agreements, inventory control, gas/electrical safety, harassment and illegal eviction is covered, as well as the delivery of comprehensive information on Housing Benefit procedures and other related matters.
It is important that a basic level of knowledge and information is communicated within a day, or its equivalent, but further training is available to take participating private landlords to a more detailed level of attainment in particular areas such as HMO issues and Housing Benefit understanding.
